Summary:
Captain James Monroe Buddington, veteran Groton whaling captain, commanding the bark George Henry, finds abandoned British vessel, H.M.S. Resolute frozen in Artic waters. It had been part of an expedition led by Sir Edward Belcher in 1852 to locate lost explorer Sir John Franklin. Buddington's rescue of the Resolute overshadowed all Christmas excitement in New London and Groton in 1855. A desk made from her teak timbers was presented to President Rutherford B. Hayes and the desk was used by President John F. Kennedy for his television appearances.
