Summary:
R. I. Indians clash over land pact. Walter Babcock is leader of one Narragansett section, placed 1800 acres of Indian land into federal Trust. John Thomas, war chief of the other Narragansett faction, represents the traditional side e.g. 'don't trade your birthright for the promise of a federal grant.' Charlestown town administrator says they will lose money in property taxes. See page 116 in this scrapbook for more about the altercation at the administration building over placing Indian lands in trust.
