Summary:
Describes soapstone pipes in the collection at the Peabody Museum in New Haven, found in Illinois and Tennessee and thought to be the product of people of the Hopewellian Culture of the Midwest. Similar pipes have been found in Connecticut, as have Fulton turkey-tail points, made of flint, a stone not found in Connecticut, leading to conjecture of regular trading between native groups widely separated geographically.
