Summary:
The Hurricane of 1938 or 'The Big One' was the first of its kind since the 'Great Gale' of 1815. Communication was not like it is today and teachers tried to provide heroic examples to their students as they lighted candles, played the piano and sang songs to keep the spirits of the children up. Only later would Carol Kimball and Julia Nieviedgial and their students learn of the severe destruction the storm brought.
