Summary:
The old Rossie Velvet Mill in Mystic, which closed in 1937and is now part of the Mystic Seaport Museum, provided an annual employee picnic and work for many. The two day picnic began with a huge parade, led by a band, through town to the picnic grounds where there was a portable dance floor and two bands and an orchestra that furnished music for dancing. Although intended for employees and their families, all Mystic children were welcome and there were no guards at the gates. There was hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream and left overs were given away.
