Summary:
The City of New London acquired the Riverside Park in 1895 when ex-Gov. Thomas M. Waller, on behalf of the Post Hill Improvement Company, offered to sell a 12 acre site on the banks of the Thames River, then known as Lewis woods and once part of the John R. Bolles estate, for $5,000. In 1904, Waller, J. D. Cronin and Mayor B. F. Mahan contracted with the Shady Hill Nursery of Boston for a topographical map and real work began under the direction of Superintendent of Parks H. C. Fuller.
