Summary:
The Viking replica ship Islendingur or Icelander that was built in 1996 by Gunnar Marel Eggertsson for education purposes is a replica of Godstad ship and will visit Mystic Seaport for a short stay. This is not the first Viking replica of the Godstad, there was a ship built in Norway for Chicago's 1893 World Columbian Exposition. The 1893 ship was the idea of Capt. Magnus Andersen who proved that Lief Eriksson's voyage to America was not a myth.
