Summary:
Noted 20th Century English Evangelist, Gipsy Smith, a full blooded gypsy is not buried in Mystic's Elm Grove Cemetery. However, Gipsy's oldest son, Albany Rodney Smith, known as Gypsy Smith Jr., also an Evangelist. He and his wife lie in Noank Valley Cemetery. Gypsy Jr. was born Dec. 31, 1880 in England and he loved the sea and the holy word. His first pastorate was in the Old Mystic Methodist Church and was later ordained as a Baptist minister. His children were Betty, J. Rodney and G. Wilbur Smith. His granddaughter lives in Mystic (2004).
