Summary:
Carol Kimball remembers much of the century as she looks back to a post-World War I childhood. She remembers the smells and work in caring for kerosene lamps and the happy day her house got electricity in the 1920s. Electricity ended the need for a water pump in the kitchen and made possible such things as a flush toilet; a bathtub with hot and cold water faucets; an electric vacuum cleaner; central heating; a refrigerator instead of an ice box and a radio.
