Summary:
The 309th gathering hosted by the Narragansett Indians, in which they were joined by representatives from the Niantic tribe, the Shennicocks of Long Island, the Iriquois, the Wampanoag and other tribes. The term powwow is not used for this annual gathering, as the type of dancing exhibited would have been done in small family groups rather than a larger gathering. The tribal council organizes the day-to-day activities. Places to stay and dine are included in the article, with the Dove Crest Indian Restaurant, originally run by Eleanor and Ferris Dove, featured.
