As a state recognized, incorporated genealogy society, The Indian and Colonial Research Center has several responsibilities. Educating it’s members in proper etiquette in conducting research at town halls is one responsibility. It must be remembered that town clerks are not employed to conduct genealogical research, only to facilitate access to records according to Connecticut State Statute. The following link will provide a nice overview to how researchers and town clerks should interact, and frequently asked questions regarding access to Connecticut vital records. The Connecticut Professional Genealogists Council and members representing Connecticut Town Clerks have met several times to help improve relations between researchers and town clerks. Both groups should be applauded for their efforts to ease this facilitation

Please note that  I C R C  does not have a professional on our staff but our volunteers will do their best to help you with your research at our facility
